It's me, back again for the very first time.
I have not dressed up for halloween in nearly a hundred years or something, but for some reason I am determined to this time around. Decided on being a zombie. The original idea was for zombie family, but one by one the family has pointed out that that was my idea, not thiers. Don't think its happening. We'll see whos laughing when I eat thier brains.
By the way, I've never done zombie makeup before. Never applied any makeup that I am prepared to admit to. Youthful experimentation doesn't count, right?? Just kidding. But just to be clear, if I had (which I probably did not), it totally would not mean anything. At all.
OKAY! Getting right into it. Since this is not something that anyone oustide of Santa Monica Boulevard does regularly I decided to post my trials and errors online.
Zombie wounds attempt #1
I started with a small bottle of liquid latex and a Ben Nye bruise colors makeup wheel. Flying by the seat of my pants the first try came out fairly decent.
Here is a closer look at the large wound.
The main wound was layered latex-toilet paper-latex. I was going for a "gash" but ended up with something more like a burst blister. Still cool, and good for future reference.
I think the problem was too much latex over the top. I covered the TP with 2 coats of the liquid latex and the thickness made it impossible to rip open. Once I got a hole going it would only enlarge, and not tear down a seam.
Makeup was applied with q-tips. Not recommended as the colors are polka-dotty. I will switch to foam applicators and brushes on the next experiment.
The following shot is of 3 layers of liquid latex. I was looking to pluck holes into it for a rotting flesh look. Again I think too much latex was used. I was able to get really good looking perforations going, but the amount of material on the skin made them close up so they just look like sores.
All in all I am pleased with my first try. I'll be back with more soon. Plus photos of the application of the raw latex.
